Fidelity Life and Sharecare

  • Why’s Fidelity Life offering me this – what’s it got to do with my life insurance / it’s just another marketing gimmick?

    Life insurance has always been about protecting what’s most important, and people everywhere are increasingly conscious of their health and wellbeing. We also know customers want something tangible from their life insurer. So Fidelity Life has teamed up with a leading global digital health company Sharecare to help our staff, customers and advisers live longer, better lives.

  • Who is Sharecare, what’s Fidelity Lifes’s relationship with them?

    Sharecare is a leading global digital health company completely independent of Fidelity Life. We selected Sharecare as our health and wellness partner following an extensive global search and due diligence process. Sharecare launched in the US in 2009 and launched their app in 2012. Since then they’ve raised over US$450 million in capital, and helped more than 45 million people take control of their health and wellbeing through their RealAge test, their network of 10,000 hospital and medical partners and 2,400 employees.

  • Will I get a discount on my Fidelity Life premiums if I use Sharecare?

    No, your use of Sharecare won’t have any affect on your Fidelity Life insurance cover or premiums. Because you’re a valued customer you’ll have access to a broader range of Sharecare’s functionality than you would otherwise, for free.

  • How will Fidelity Life or Sharecare reward me for living a healthy lifestyle?

    You’ll be rewarded with ‘Green Days’ within the Sharecare app for tracking healthy habits, which can help to lower your RealAge within the app over time. We’re working on adding partners to the platform in future – such as petrol stations, supermarkets and gyms, for example – with the aim of further rewarding you for making positive and lasting health and lifestyle improvements. The true rewards, though, will come from living a healthier life!

  • Is Fidelity Life or my adviser getting paid or receiving an incentive if I sign up for Sharecare?

    No, there’s no payments or incentives involved. This is all about adding value to Fidelity Life customers by helping you live a longer, better life.

Signing up / setting up

  • My Fitbit tells me all I need to know about my health, I don’t think I need Sharecare?

    Sharecare’s focus is on your total health. Sharecare can sync with tools like Fitbit and use your data to provide tailored content, challenges and rewards to help you change your behaviours and improve your health and wellbeing over time.

  • Can anyone sign up?

    Yes, anyone in NZ can download the app and sign up. But because you’re a valued Fidelity Life customer, by registering your Fidelity Life policy number during sign up you’ll get access to a broader range of Sharecare’s functionality than you would otherwise.

  • I’ve got life / health policies with other insurers too, can I link them with Sharecare?

    Anyone in NZ can download the app and sign up but only by registering your Fidelity Life policy number can you get access to a broader range of Sharecare’s functionality, for free.

  • Can Sharecare link with my GP and / or my medicine prescriptions?

    Sharecare offers this in overseas markets but, sorry, this won’t be available in NZ just yet. It’s something Sharecare is looking at for the future though.

  • I'm on medication: should I talk to my GP before I sign up?

    Yes, if you’re on medication we’d strongly encourage you to do that. Sharecare is a leading global digital health company founded by expert health professionals. You can find out more at their website sharecare.com.

  • How much does it cost?

    Nothing – the App is free. Fidelity Life is providing you with access to a broader range of functionality for free simply for being a valued customer. By registering your Fidelity Life policy number can you get access to a broader range of functionality.

  • How do I sign up?

    It’s easy. Follow the sign up links from the Fidelity Life website or from the marketing information you’ve received.

  • If I don't finish completing the RealAge test, do I have to start again?

    No, you can pause the RealAgeTM test at any point. All your answers are automatically saved so you can come back to complete the RealAge test later.

  • I’m not good with mobile phones or apps, can I just use Sharecare on my computer?

    Yes you can, but it’s really designed to be used as an app and you won’t get all the functionality. For example you won’t be able to sync your Fitbit or other health devices and apps to Sharecare for automatic health tracking.

  • Can I connect Sharecare with my Fitbit or other health platforms to track my steps, sleep, stress etc?

    Yes you can connect Google Fit, Apple Health, Samsung Health and Fitbit with the Sharecare app. Alternatively, you can also enter this data manually.

  • Is it compulsory – what happens if I don’t sign up?

    No, it’s not compulsory and there’s no link between using Sharecare and your Fidelity Life policy or premiums. However, if you’re interested in living a longer, better life then we recommend you give it a try.

Using Sharecare

  • How does it work?

    Sharecare’s wellness tools and resources are accessible whenever and wherever you want via the app. It’s designed to give you customised support to help achieve your specific health goals. The key components include:

    • RealAge test: Take this fifteen-minute online health assessment to discover your body’s true age compared to your calendar age.
    • Trackers: You can connect wearable devices to monitor daily habits like sleep, steps, nutrition and more, or you can self-track the information manually directly in the app.
    • Personal Health Timeline: Receive tailored recommendations, content and services based on your RealAge results.
    • Specialised Programs: Take advantage of the RealAge program and the Financial Health program all from the app.

    In time we’ll also look to activate the Health Profile: Access your important health data like biometric information, vaccine history, lab results and medications all in one place.

  • It sounds complicated and time-consuming?

    It’s really not and we recommend you give it a try. The more you put into it the more you get out of it – over time Sharecare learns more about you and helps you focus on those things that will help improve your health and wellbeing.

  • What types of recommendations and information will I get?

    You'll receive personalised insights, tools and services via the app, all focused on helping you live a healthier life. This could include articles, videos and slideshows, as well as relevant updates on things like your latest step count, weekly sleep report and information about your stress level. The more you use it, the more relevant the information will become, and the more you’ll get out of it.

  • What’s the RealAge test?

    The RealAge test is a confidential, clinically-validated health assessment that guides you through a series of questions designed to determine the physical age of your body compared to your calendar age. Questions touch on your lifestyle and medical history, as well as relationships and stress. Discovering your RealAge is the first step to getting started as it helps you understand how your habits are impacting your health.

    Note the personal health and medical information you provide for the RealAge test won’t be shared with Fidelity Life.

  • What’s a "Green Day"?

    Green Days are the ‘health currency’ that Sharecare uses to measure your progress towards a healthier life. Each Green Day you earn counts towards a reduction in your RealAge, the benchmark for measuring your health in the Sharecare app. You’ll earn Green Days by tracking healthy habits in the app such as nutrition, steps, sleep, stress and more.

  • How do the challenges work?

    To provide you with extra motivation as you work towards a healthier life, occasionally you’ll be invited to sign up to challenges. Challenges get you focused on achieving targets for sleep, steps and stress, for example. Challenges are optional to join and, if you’re one of the top achievers, you’ll win a prize or reward such as a restaurant voucher – for healthy food of course!

  • What if my Fidelity Life policy lapses or I cancel it – will I still be able to use Sharecare?

    Yes, but your access to the broad range of functionality made possible through Fidelity Life will stop, and you’ll only be able to use limited features.

  • Will the app serve me up annoying banner ads?

    No, there’s no in-app advertising with Sharecare. What you will see, though, is content, challenges and rewards - tailored to you - to help you change your behaviours and improve your health and wellbeing over time.

Help / support / privacy / security

  • Will Fidelity Life share my policy details or medical info it holds about me with Sharecare?

    We won’t share any of your health or medical details with Sharecare. However, only if you consent, we will share some policy information with Sharecare (policy type, amount of cover, policy start date, for example) along with your personal details such as name, email, date of birth and postcode to help them personalise their content and features for you. We won’t share any info if you don’t consent.

  • Will Sharecare share my personal health or medical info it collects with Fidelity Life – could this affect my Fidelity Life cover?

    No, the personal health and medical information you provide for the RealAge test won’t be shared with Fidelity Life. We don’t have any plans to link your use of Sharecare with your cover or premiums.

    Data security and privacy is of paramount importance to both Fidelity Life and Sharecare. Sharecare’s philosophy is that you are in control of your data and the information you provide to Sharecare will not be shared with third parties like Facebook or Google.

  • Surely Sharecare will share some info with Fidelity Life?

    Only your name and policy number so that Sharecare can advise Fidelity Life who has signed up or are eligible for a reward, other than that Sharecare will only share aggregated, anonymous data (i.e. individuals won’t be identified) with Fidelity Life for reporting purposes. Your specific health data will remain private under Sharecare’s privacy policy.

  • How will Sharecare use my personal and medical information?

    Your data will be stored on Sharecare’s secure servers and used in accordance with the consent you’ve given. Using your personal health data and easily syncing with tools and apps like Fitbit, Apple Health, Google Fit and Samsung Health, Sharecare provides tailored content, tools, challenges and rewards to help you change your behaviours and reduce your RealAge over time. The more you use it, the more relevant the information will become, and the more you’ll get out of it.

  • Can I trust this app – will my data be shared with Google or Facebook for example?

    Data security and privacy is of paramount importance to both Fidelity Life and Sharecare. Sharecare’s philosophy is that you are in control of your data and the information you provide to Sharecare won’t be shared with third parties like Facebook or Google.

    We selected Sharecare to be our health and wellness partner following an extensive global search and due diligence process which included a focus on data security. Your data will be stored on Sharecare’s secure servers and used in accordance with the consent you’ve given.
