
The LifeProtect policy or increase you have applied for does not commence until your application has been accepted by Fidelity Life Assurance Company Limited (Fidelity Life). However, Fidelity Life provides limited Free Temporary Cover for up to 60 days while your Life Cover and/or Trauma Cover application is being assessed.
Free Temporary Cover starts.
This Free Temporary Cover starts from the date your completed LifeProtect application for a new policy, or an increase to an existing LifeProtect policy (Life Cover and/or Trauma Cover), is submitted to Fidelity Life. Cover is valid for 60 days from that date.
Free Temporary Cover ends.
This Free Temporary Cover ends on the earliest of the following happening:
- The expiry of 60 days since the Free Temporary Cover started;
- Fidelity Life is in receipt of a request to cancel your application for LifeProtect;
- The date the policy owner(s) is/are advised that the LifeProtect application has been accepted or assessed as non-standard in any way.
When there is no Free Temporary Cover.
There is no Free Temporary Cover if:
- The person to be insured is under the age of 18;
- The person to be insured is over the age of 65;
- The person to be insured has had an insurance application refused, deferred or assessed as non-standard by any life insurer including Fidelity Life;
- The person to be insured has in the past had an insurance policy avoided due to non-disclosure;
- The cover(s) being applied for in the LifeProtect application for the person to be insured would have been refused, deferred, or assessed as non-standard in any way (excluding any condition that may occur after the application for cover has been submitted);
- The person to be insured has non-disclosed any material information on the application;
- A similar application has been accepted and a policy issued by another company since this application was completed;
- A LifeProtect Life Cover and/or Trauma Cover has not been applied for.
Trauma conditions covered.
The following trauma conditions are covered to the extent defined in the LifeProtect Trauma Cover policy wording: Loss of Sight in Both Eyes, Coma, Total Deafness in Both Ears, Severe Burns, Major Head Trauma, Paralysis, and Loss of Limbs.
The Survival Period as defined in the LifeProtect Trauma Cover wording also applies.
The amount of Free Temporary Cover.
Irrespective of the number of Certificates issued for the person to be insured, the amount of Free Temporary Cover is restricted to the sum insured being applied for in the LifeProtect Life Cover and/or Trauma Cover application (as applicable), but limited to the following:
- A maximum of $500,000 for death;
- A maximum of $250,000 for trauma conditions listed above; or
- A combined maximum of $500,000.
Free Temporary Cover is not payable if any proposed Cover(s) become(s) payable. Any benefit payable will be paid to the proposed policy owner(s).
Your rights to access your personal information.
There is no cover for death or trauma caused by accidental injury, sickness, or illness, where that accidental injury, sickness or illness was caused by or results from:
- A self-inflicted act, whether sane or insane;
- Taking drugs, alcohol or any intoxicating substance;
- Participation in a criminal activity;
- Aviation other than as a fare paying passenger on a recognised airline;
- Taking part in risks or occupations which would exclude the person to be insured from cover under LifeProtect Life Cover or Trauma Cover, either under the policy terms and conditions or if the underwriting assessment would have excluded cover;
- Any accident, sickness or illness which occurred on or before the date of the application;
- Any sickness or illness that arose from a pre-existing condition or symptom before the date of application.
Accident means external or internal bodily injury caused solely and directly by violent, accidental, external or visible means. The injury must be unintended and unexpected.
Application means the completed application form for the LifeProtect cover(s) being applied for by the policy owner(s) and person to be insured named in the application.
Pre-existing condition means any sickness (including signs and symptoms of) that the policy owner(s) or the person to be insured were aware of, or the person to be insured had sought advice or medical treatment or surgery for, or a reasonable person in the same position should have been aware of or would have sought medical advice for, before the Free Temporary Cover started.
