Supporting the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation |
| We are proud to support the Leukaemia & Blood
Foundation (LBF) having raised over $300,000 for them over the past three
years. |

| The LBF was established in 1977
to improve the lives of patients and families in New Zealand coping with
leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood conditions. As well
as providing vital patient support
and funding research, the LBF is committed to building awareness and
understanding about these diseases and their treatment. The LBF
receives no government funding. |

The LBF provides:

The link between Fidelity Life and LBF
|
|
Six New Zealand children and adults are diagnosed with blood cancers each day - that's
every four hours. While leukaemia is the most common childhood cancer, the majority
of people diagnosed with these diseases are
adults, with the disease reaching its greatest impact from age 50 onwards - corresponding to the age of a typical Fidelity Life policyholder.
Blood cancers have a very real relevance to our products. Cancer is our
most common cause of death claims, most common critical care condition and
second most common cause of income protection claims. According to the LBF, blood cancers
combined are the 4th most common type of cancer, and diseases such as lymphoma are
on the rise, with more cases diagnosed each year than cervical cancer. Our products can provide an
instant lump sum or an ongoing income, to help secure
a better quality of life. |

How has the money been raised?
|
|
We are proud to have raised over $300,000 for the LBF over the
past three years. We have raised the money through a
variety of initiatives including:
- LBF Golf Marrowthon® - Milton Jennings, Chief Executive Officer, and Peter Mensah, Business Development Manager, have both raised money by taking on the LBF’s 100 Hole Challenge. In fact, Milton holds the record for the individual raising the most LBF Golf Marrowthon sponsorship – more than $17,000, www.marrowthon.org.nz.
- Bike for Life - Roy Norris, National Sales Manager,
rode twice around Lake Taupo to raise funds for the LBF. In
total Roy raised over $7,000.
- Fidelity Life Staff and Adviser "Shave for a Cure®" -
Our staff raised over $50,000 by losing their locks for an LBF Shave for a
Cure event
www.shaveforacure.co.nz.
- Lunch for Leukaemia - Our staff hold a lunch each year
to raise money for the LBF.
- Collect during Appeal Week - Staff members donate their
time during the LBF's Appeal Week in November to collect money for the cause.
- Every Day Counts - Fidelity Life recently purchased a whole month on the Leukaemia
& Blood Foundation's Every Day Counts calendar for $30,000
www.everydaycounts.org.nz. The fundraising initiative allows supporters to buy a day which is special to them for $1,000 - the cost of providing the LBF’s Patient Support Services each day.
- Corporate Donations - Fidelity Life is a major sponsor
of the LBF and our direct contribution is at least $40,000 p.a. in
addition to other funds raised.
Pru Etcheverry, Executive Director of the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation said:
"We are incredibly grateful to Fidelity Life for all their support and enthusiasm
- they have always been such a pleasure to deal with. I know we really
value our association with Fidelity Life, and I think I can safely say the relationship
has come to mean a lot to both our organisations."
