Supporting Leukaemia
& Blood Cancer New Zealand

We are proud to support Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC), having raised over $300,000 for them over recent years. We've shaved our heads, ran Auckland's iconic sky tower, played hundreds of holes of golf and collected with buckets to help fundraise for charity.

The link between Fidelity Life and LBC

Blood cancers have a very real relevance in the insurance industry. Cancer is the most common cause of death, trauma and critical care claims by our policyholders, and second most common cause of income protection claims. Our insurance products are designed to provide an instant lump sum or an ongoing income, to help secure a better quality of life.

We all hope it doesn't happen to us. But the facts show that it does. Six New Zealand children and adults are diagnosed with blood cancers each day - that's about 2,200 New Zealanders a year. The cause of blood cancers is unknown and these diseases can strike anyone, without warning. Treatment can go on for months or even years.

Fidelity Life staff see the devastating effects that illnesses, like cancer, have on our policyholder's lives. That is why Fidelity Life staff get behind great charities like Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.

How have Fidelity Life staff members helped?

We have raised money through a variety of initiatives including:

  • LBC Golf Marrowthon® - Milton Jennings, then our Chief Executive Officer, and other staff have raised money by taking on LBC's 100 Hole Challenge. In fact, Milton holds the record for the individual raising the most LBC Golf Marrowthon sponsorship - more than $17,000, www.marrowthon.org.nz.
  • Fidelity Life Staff and Adviser "Shave for a Cure®" - Fidelity Life's management team, our staff and Financial Advisers have raised over $70,000 by losing their locks for LBC Shave for a Cure events www.shaveforacure.co.nz.
  • Corporate Sky Tower Stair Challenge - Staff teams of five have raced against approximately 70 other teams in the 'vertical marathon' of mixed corporate teams up Auckland's iconic Sky Tower.
  • Firefighter Sky Tower Challenge, A few brave staff, including our CEO, have raced up the 51 flights - or 1,103 Sky Tower steps, in full firefighter gear weighing up to 25 kg to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
  • Collect during Appeal Week- Staff members donate their time during LBC's Appeal Week in November to collect money for the cause.
  • Corporate Donations - Fidelity Life is a major sponsor of LBC in addition to its fund raising activities.

Pru Etcheverry, Executive Director of LBC said: "We are incredibly grateful to Fidelity Life for all their support and enthusiasm - they have always been such a pleasure to deal with. I know we really value our association with Fidelity Life, and I think I can safely say the relationship has come to mean a lot to both our organisations."
